wow

Okay, so I have 19 students scheduled for my class tonight. Biggest group yet. I'm excited and a bit nervous but really looking forward to it. I love talking photography!

Holiday Joy Sessions filling up quickly

I know with the weather today it hardly feel like the holidays are coming, but they are. There are just 4 sessions left for Sunday, October 7th in Birmingham and 8 available sessions on Saturday, October 6th in Lake Orion. At each day of sessions I will have samples of the four card designs and samples of the available card papers. You can select your card then and after viewing your online gallery, simply let me know which portrait to use for your cards. I'm so excited to have so many families returning each year. I truly look forward to and enjoy watching your families grow. Thank you for that privilege.

Then ...

And now ....

just so you know

Hello. With the kids back in school I've had to adjust my office hours. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 12:30 - 3:30. What does this mean? This means if you'd like to actually talk to me on the phone, it is best to call during those hours. I still may not be able to get to the phone as I could be with a client, but I will do my best to answer and return all calls during those times.

And to inspire me to get myself organized, here is a photo of my custom desk/work area. In other words, the piece of wood my husband stained and added pipes, too. In all honesty, he did quite a lot of work - designing, measuring, routing, staining, gluing, assembling, etc - and I truly appreciate it. The higher desk is just the right height to stand at and package orders. He really thought of everything. I think it looked this clean for about 2.3 seconds. I actually don't even remember it looking like this and it depressed me a bit when I pulled up this photo. At this point, I can't even see the top of it and no, I am not going to post a "now" photo of my office. It might make some of you question how I get anything accomplished. But, you know I do. Have a great weekend.

Tonight's the night

So, I start my Fabulous Family Photographs Classes in Rochester tonight. Wish me luck! There is still time to register for the following classes and all of the classes in Lake Orion.

Holiday Joy 2007

I know it seems like summer is not even over yet, but it's time to start thinking about this year's Holiday Joy Sessions. By having the sessions in October, that ensures you will get delivery of your cards and enlargements by the first week in December giving you plenty of time to put your cards in the mail and wrap up those gift prints before the hustle and bustle of the holidays becomes too much.

Saturday, October 6th
Lake Orion

Sunday, October 7th
Birmingham

Sessions will be schedule on the hour and half hours from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Holiday Joy 2007
-15 minute outdoor session
-4-6 images in an online gallery, shown in both color and black and white
-set of (25) 5 x 7 folded cards, choose from one of four designs, personalized, envelopes included

Additional enlargments may be ordered but there is no additional purchase required. Current enlargement pricing is on the website.

thinking about the holidays

Okay, I promise I will roll out the dates and details for this year's Holiday Joy sessions. I keep getting phone calls and emails inquiring for this year's dates and I will let you know by week's end. In the meantime, the biggest question I get is "What should we wear?" For your holiday cards, I suggest to do something fun. Again, think layers and textures. You can coordinate your look without everyone wearing the same exact thing (although that's not a bad thing.) Pick a color scheme - denim, brown, white or denim, orange, green or even put everyone in something black and let them accessorize with their own color choice. I've had clients top simple white shirt and jeans with fun scarves, vests, hats, or ponchos. Just think COORDINATE. Lay the outfits on your bed together and see what you think. Remember, this is the one time during the year you'll see color from me so keep that in mind. To get you started, here are some highlights from last year's sessions.

school's in

So, I'm sitting at my computer and guess what. I don't hear anyone. No one is squabbling. No one is yelling. No one is making tooting noises. But I don't hear any giggles, either. You know what I mean. It's good and bad as I am at home alone. I miss the giggles, the hugs, and the constant snacks. But, I'm glad the kids are having a great time learning new things and making friends. So, this morning we had the second annual Back 2 School Bus Stop Bash. That means getting to the bus stop 15 minutes early, eating donuts, grapes, bananas, drinking juice and hot chocolate and coffee for the parents. Yeah, our kids have it good. If you have a bus stop, give it a try next year. It really set a great tone for the kids as they headed off for their first day. Plus, I think it helps us moms and dads keep the tears in and just enjoy the moment.

last hurrah

Whew. The kids are almost back in school. This weekend is the last for lots of things:

TV in the morning
swimming at the pool
staying up late
sleeping in late
ice cream for dinner (well, we might still do that on occasion!)
playing in the sprinklers
no routine

I forgot how hectic this week before school is!!! I even forgot to post to the blog at all last week. Also, I am very behind on phone calls to clients. If you have emailed or called me this last week, I apologize for the delay. I will get back to you next week once the kiddos are in school. But, if you have time, run to The Children's Place this weekend. The whole store is 25% off plus if you have ever bought anything there, you probably have a coupon that was recently mailed to you. Grandma took the grandkids shopping and they both got a back-to-school outfit. Look how fun! Okay, so this totally goes against the "rules" for portrait clothing but that's the beauty of scheduling a fun Signature Session. With the lower fee structure, you can afford to have a little bit of fun. If you are gearing up for your Holiday Joy session, think layers and textures. Go all out! It will be great.
